On Wednesday, Sept. 6, New Stage Theatre announced its 52nd season. Here is a rundown of the plays the theater will perform this season.
“And Then There Were None,” Sept. 12-24—New Stage opens the season dramatically with this Agatha Christie thriller. In the novel, someone lures a group of people to an island, and one by one, they’re killed.
“Baby Doll,” Oct. 24-Nov. 5—In this play, which is set in the Mississippi Delta in the early 1950s, plantation owner Archie Lee is married to Baby Doll. He has to consummate their marriage on her 20th birthday, but problems arise when a nearby plantation owner sets his eyes on Baby Doll.
“Beauty & the Beast,” Dec. 7-17—In this Disney classic, Belle has to help the Beast learn how to love and be loved.
“Silent Sky,” Feb. 13-25, 2018—This play, which is based on the life of 19th-century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt, follows her journey as she balances science, family obligations, love and a woman’s role in society.
“Shakespeare in Love,” April 17-29, 2018—Playwright William Shakespeare and wanna-be actress Viola de Lesseps are star-crossed lovers. Their journey becomes the inspiration for “Romeo and Juliet.”
“Sister Act,” May 29-June 10, 2018—In this play, which is based on the movie of the same name, Delores Van Cartier witnesses a murder, so the police hide her in a convent. She helps the sisters find their voices and discovers her own.
