On Thursday, Oct. 12, local artist and the granddaughter of late Sen. John C. Stennis, Laurin Stennis, announced that she is taking submissions for a “Mississippi: I Declare” juried art exhibit. For it, she asks that artists, creatives and craftsmen use their mediums to interpret her design of the Mississippi state flag. When submitting works, participants must include their names, town of residence, title and medium used in the work.
The deadline for submissions is Dec. 1. The exhibit opening will be Dec. 21 at the Mississippi Museum of Art (380 S. Lamar St., 601-960-1515, msmuseumart.org) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The event will have live music, food and drinks. In January 2018, the exhibit will travel to the Mississippi State Capitol and at least three other locations across the nation.
For more information, call Laurin Stennis at 601-920-9037.
