Calling All Craftspeople: Submissions for Flag Art Exhibit

On Thursday, Oct. 12, local artist and the granddaughter of late Sen. John C. Stennis, Laurin Stennis, announced that she is taking submissions for a “Mississippi: I Declare” juried art exhibit. For it, she asks that artists, creatives and craftsmen use their mediums to interpret her design of the Mississippi state flag. Saints Trade Peterson to Arizona Cardinals

It was becoming increasingly clear in the first four weeks of this NFL season who the odd man out was in the New Orleans Saints’ crowded backfield. Running backs Mark Ingram’s and Alvin Kamara’s abilities showed that Adrian Peterson wasn’t working out, and the Saints traded Peterson to the Arizona Cardinals in a move that could work out for both teams. New Orleans can now focus on splitting time between Ingram and Kamara without dealing with the need to carry the ball three ways. Arizona needed running-back help after an injury to running back David Johnson on Sept. 10. The “running back by committee” approach wasn’t working for the Cardinals, either. Continue Reading

13 Undefeated and Five Winless Teams Remain in College Football

As we enter the halfway mark of the season, 13 teams are undefeated teams, and five are still looking for a win at the FBS level. There is no way that all 13 undefeated teams will stay that way, but at the end of the season, a few of the winless teams could still be at 0. Saints Place Strief on Injured Reserve

New Orleans pulled this season back from the edge of disaster. After two straight wins, the Saints are back at .500 with a 2-2 record, with the team on its bye week. The team has seen major defensive improvement in just two games but is still waiting for the offense to break out. One of the issues holding New Orleans back has been injuries to the offensive line. Starting left tackle Terron Armstead hasn’t played this season after having shoulder surgery in the offseason. Continue Reading

Big First Half Helps Alcorn State Stay Perfect in SWAC Play

Alcorn State University was nearly unstoppable in the first half in last week’s game against Alabama State University. The second half was a bit more of a struggle for the Braves, but thanks to the hot first half, they won 24-10 over the Hornets. After fumbling the opening kickoff, Alcorn State started its opening drive at its own six-yard line. That didn’t bother Braves quarterback Lenorris Footman and running back `De’Lance Turner. Footman and Turner took turns making plays to take the Braves down the field. Continue Reading
