Duane O’Neill to Step Down As President/CEO of Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership

On Nov. 2, Duane O’Neill announced that he is stepping down as the president and chief executive officer of the Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership. He has led chambers and economic development entities for 42 years. He spent about 25 of those in the Jackson metro area. Here is his letter to GJCP:

City Implements FOG Program

Recently, the City of Jackson announced that it has started a program to keep fats, oils and grease, or FOG, out of the city’s sewer system. Here is the press release verbatim. CITY OF JACKSON ENCOURAGES RESTAURANTS TO CLEAN UP HARMFUL FATS, OILS, AND GREASE WITH ‘FOG’ PROGRAM
Jackson, Miss.—The City of Jackson is partnering with local Food Service Establishments (FSEs) to help educate business owners on the importance of keeping fats, oils, and grease—or FOG—out of the City’s sewer system. As they move through the sewers, FOG components congeal, causing line blockages or sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs), which require significant resources to alleviate. In an effort to help combat this issue, the City has launched a new Fats, Oils, and Grease Control Program (FOG Program) as one part of the City’s efforts to meet the requirements of its Consent Decree with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reduce the volume and frequency of sewer overflows. Press is a Tool for Musicians, Not a Destination

Working at the Jackson Free Press, I get quite a few emails from local and national musicians, authors and artists requesting press coverage. That is to be expected—we are a newspaper, after all—and I’m actually grateful for those emails. For one, I’m a fan of the new and the interesting, from music to literature to theater. Finding out about the unfamiliar can be rewarding in itself. For another thing, those emails also serve a practical purpose, of course, in that they tell me things I might otherwise have forgotten or not known about at all. Continue Reading
