City Implements FOG Program

Jackson, Miss.—The City of Jackson is partnering with local Food Service Establishments (FSEs) to help educate business owners on the importance of keeping fats, oils, and grease—or FOG—out of the City’s sewer system. As they move through the sewers, FOG components congeal, causing line blockages or sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs), which require significant resources to alleviate. In an effort to help combat this issue, the City has launched a new Fats, Oils, and Grease Control Program (FOG Program) as one part of the City’s efforts to meet the requirements of its Consent Decree with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reduce the volume and frequency of sewer overflows. 2018 State Fair Music Lineup Announced

There are a few sounds that attendees can always expect from the Mississippi State Fair—the braying of barn animals, kids screaming in delight, the whirring of rides, and of course, the sounds of a star-studded music lineup. On Tuesday, July 17, the Mississippi State Fair Commission announced the headlining artists for the 159th annual fair, which will take place Oct. 3-14. 2018 Mississippi Book Festival Announces Schedule

On Wednesday, July 11, the Mississippi Book Festival announced its lineup, which includes panels that cover topic such as food, race, literature and more. See the schedule here. The festival, also known as the “literary lawn party,” will be at the Mississippi State Capitol (400 High St.) on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Along with the panels, the event will have vendors, food trucks and more. 2019 Mississippi Invitational Deadline June 30

 

The Mississippi Museum of Art will once again host its annual Mississippi Invitational in June 2019. In preparation for the event, MMA is asking for artist submissions, with a deadline of June 30, 2018. Artists who live in the state of Mississippi are eligible to compete and can submit original works in any medium. In mid-September, artists will found out if they have been selected, and then the guest curator, Kimberli Grant, will do in-studio visits in October and November.
