On Nov. 2, Duane O’Neill announced that he is stepping down as the president and chief executive officer of the Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership. He has led chambers and economic development entities for 42 years. He spent about 25 of those in the Jackson metro area. Here is his letter to GJCP:

Jackson, Miss.—The City of Jackson is partnering with local Food Service Establishments (FSEs) to help educate business owners on the importance of keeping fats, oils, and grease—or FOG—out of the City’s sewer system. As they move through the sewers, FOG components congeal, causing line blockages or sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs), which require significant resources to alleviate. In an effort to help combat this issue, the City has launched a new Fats, Oils, and Grease Control Program (FOG Program) as one part of the City’s efforts to meet the requirements of its Consent Decree with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to reduce the volume and frequency of sewer overflows. On Wednesday, July 11, the Mississippi Book Festival announced its lineup, which includes panels that cover topic such as food, race, literature and more. See the schedule here. The Mississippi Museum of Art will once again host its annual Mississippi Invitational in June 2019. In preparation for the event, MMA is asking for artist submissions, with a deadline of June 30, 2018. Artists who live in the state of Mississippi are eligible to compete and can submit original works in any medium. In mid-September, artists will found out if they have been selected, and then the guest curator, Kimberli Grant, will do in-studio visits in October and November.
